Carbon Offsets
What Are Carbon Offsets?
A carbon offset is a method of compensating for the emissions caused by a person or a business. (e.g., through land restoration or the planting of trees) – that is used to compensate for emissions that occur elsewhere.
We have a range of programs that you can contribute to in order to offset your carbon footprint, helping people worldwide contribute to a better Earth for all of us.
How Do Carbon Offsets Affect Climate Change?
A carbon credit represents one metric ton of carbon dioxide (tCO2) that is avoided, reduced or removed from the atmosphere.
Each tonne of CO2 stored or avoided by a project generates one credit, which can offset one tonne of carbon dioxide emitted elsewhere. Redwoods store 2,600 metric tons of carbon per hectare (2.4 acres). Offsetting 5 tons of Carbon emissions is the same as taking 1 vehicle off the road.
